Chihuahua training begins the day your bring your new little friend into your home. Although small in size they are mighty by nature and will dominate your life most unpleasantly if you don't lay down the rules immediately.
Along with their small size and big attitude come some very fragile bones. Teaching a chihuahua to jump of high places can very well cause serious injury. On the other hand training them simple commands using a table will be a lot easier on you. They don't take up a lot of room and can be taught to sit, stay, down and roll over on a table top.
A necessary form of chihuahua training is potty training. Are you using a crate? If so, the job may be easier because it can be the designated area for elimination with the use of newspapers. A comfortable crate with a designated area for elimination can be placed in view of busy family areas, which would make your chihuahua more adaptable to the crate. If you will be gone for extended periods of time, a crate or safe area in your home should be provided. If your dog is allowed the freedom to roam the house in your absence, there is a great possibility that some of your treasures could be destroyed by the time you return.
If you want your dog to eliminate outside, start the training early. Keep your pocket full of treats as their reward and begin. While potty training will be an all day event, other training should not last more than 5 or 10 minutes per day. Let your dog out when he wakes up, after play time, after eating and after training.
Their size does not require long walks or outdoor exercise. Taking a running turn through the house is usually enough to keep them fit. Socialization with other people and/or dogs will help your pet be a better pet when visitors come to your home.
Chihuahua training, not unlike other dog training, will require persistence. They are strong willed and this "will" is not particularly appropriate to their size. Cute, should not count when you are performing your chihuahua training tasks. Persistence does count. Consistency also counts. You can't scold for an action today and let it pass tomorrow. If you catch your pet chewing contraband, take it away and replace it with an allowable toy. Treats are not recommended because they will look at the treat as a reward for chewing up your new shoes.
Chihuahua training begins with you and your family. To ensure your dog will be a loyal and obedient companion for your home, start training early. Stretch your patience to the limit and be consistent. Strict but careful handling are a must with this tiny breed. As stated on http://www.kingdomofpetssite.info, they are also susceptible to weather changes. Cold weather may mean a sweater or confinement to your home. The more we read, the more we learn.
